Human suffer from cancer for a long time, and there are a large number of liver cancer patients in Taiwan. In the past, treatments for liver cancer patients are surgery or drug-based, however, the side effects for these treatments cannot be ignored. In order to change this situation, scientists target on natural ingredients which are relatively harmless. 
Apart from the traditional method by treating cancer with drugs, treatment by physical fields is a rising area in recent years. Due to its low side effects on the human body, physical field has gradually been introduced into the medical field as a therapy. By combining the noninvasive physical field with natural ingredients, the anticancer effect of natural compound could be enhanced, which allows minimum dosage of drugs to produce maximum curative effect. In view of this, we decided to study the daily diet in Taiwan - Capsicum annuum, as well as its synergistic anticancer effect with magnetic field. 
Capsicum annuum contains capsaicin, which is the main constituent accounting for its spiciness. Past studies have pointed out that above a certain concentration, capsaicin could induce apoptosis in HepG2. In terms of physical fields, with the discoveries and applications of the bio-magnetic effects, scholars believe that biological tissue would indeed affect by magnetic field.
This study was designed to investigate the magnetic field-assisted inhibiting effect of capsaicin in liver cancer. We use HepG2 cell line as a model system for human liver cancer cells. In the culture of HepG2 cells, we added capsaicin and placed under a static magnetic field (0.5T). Three days after operation, the state of cells was observed by an optical microscope. MTT assay was used to detect cell viability. Cell death status was measured by Flow Cytometry. Expression of apoptosis-related proteins BCL-2 and BAX was measured by Western Blot, and cleaved caspase-3 protein was detected via immunofluorescence staining and photographed through a confocal fluorescence microscopy.
Experimental data showed that compared to capsaicin alone group, capsaicin synergized with static magnetic field (0.5T), which had a better effect on inhibiting HepG2. The expression ratio of BAX to BCL-2 and cleaved caspase-3 also pointed out that capsaicin work synergistically with static magnetic field causing apoptosis effects more obvious than using capsaicin alone on HepG2. 
In summary, our results show that static magnetic field enhanced the anticancer effect of capsaicin on HepG2.
