台灣現代演劇自1980年代後期便陸續上演莎士比亞翻案劇，如傳奇劇場吳興國在2004年公演的《暴風雨》。它喚起了我們對台灣殖民地史以及後殖民現今的一些回憶。這部戲中殖民地人物的特徵，讓我們不禁想起1903年日本的第一齣《奧塞羅》莎士比亞翻案劇。原作中塞浦路斯島被改編為澎湖島，而摩爾人黑將軍奧塞羅則成了部落民出身的陸軍少將以及台灣總督室鷲郎。如果日本《奧塞羅》藉由邊陲台灣顯示日本帝國內部人種階級位階的擴張，那麼台灣《暴風雨》則突顯了後殖民的現在以及各族群之間所呈現的矛盾。本文的目的將藉由檢視日本《奧塞羅》以及台灣《暴風雨》，解明自日本殖民地時期至今日為止台灣與外來政權的關係。

Taiwan's contemporary theatre has adopted Shakespeare theatre since late 1980s, such as Lee Kuo-Shu's Shamlet and Wu Shing-Kuo's the Desire of Kingdom [Macbeth] (1986), Hamlet (1990) and Lear Alone (King Lear) (2001). Wu Shing-Kuo's Tempest (2004) reminds us Taiwan's colonized history and the post-colonial contemporary. The colonial characteristics of figures in Taiwanese Tempest remind us Japan's first adaptation of Othello. Japan's first adaptation of Othello (Osero) written by Emi Shuin and directed by Kawakami Otojiro in 1903 transferred Cyprus into Taiwan and the general Othello into a new commoner (Shin hei-min), Muro Washiro. Muro Washiro, a new commoner, who had been located to the lowest racial class before the Meiji restoration, became the governor-general of Japan's new colony. If Japan's Osero shows the alternative of Japan's internal racial hierarchy through imperial periphery-Taiwan, then Taiwanese Tempest indicates the current situation of Taiwan's post-colonial period and the contradictions within Taiwan's ethnic groups. Through examining the two adaptations of Shakespeare theatre, this paper will shed light on the relations between the geopolitics of Taiwan and the exterior hegemonies in Taiwan from the Japanese colonial period until nowadays.
