當瑞士德語詩人羅伯特•瓦爾澤在刻劃其他詩人時,往往也連帶描繪自我。此外,他還傾向在創作生涯的早、晚期,替同一位詩人各描寫一幅肖像,如:克萊斯特及畢西納。不過,前一幅是理想化的詩人畫像,彌漫著浪漫主義色彩,後一幅卻是帶有批評性質及寓含嘲諷。瓦爾澤此舉應當不單是想呈現改換觀點之輕易,也極有可能是欲修正對詩人身份的體認。他在「一位劇作家」一文中暗批畢西納受限於自身性格,無法成為卓越的劇作家;若將此批評對照他之後於自我辯護信中的反駁,更令人懷疑瓦爾澤實是想藉此文表達:畢西納的性格如同克萊斯特及其本身的性格一般,難以勝任人生舞台,故無法在有生之年享受成功的榮耀;而此看似自我批評,卻也是對主流意見隱密不彰的批判。 |
英文摘要 |
When the Swiss author Robert Walser created a portrait of a poet, he actually wrote a self-portrait. He created portraits of such poets as Kleist and Büchner in his early creative period as well as in his late creative period. However, the former style of his poet-portrait tends to be idealistic and romantic, while the later style is critical and ironical. Walser's intention was not only to show that he changed his perspective easily but potentially he wanted to correct his view on the poets. In his prose, ”A Dramatist,” Walser imputed Büchner's failure as an excellent dramatist to his personality. Later, Walser refuted such criticism. Juxtapose his opinion of Büchner and his refutation, and we can infer that Walser was probably in the opinion that Büchner, Kleist and himself were not well-known during their lifetime due to their personality. This is not only a self-criticism, but also a secret criticism of the prevailing opinion of his contemporaries. |
