當代德語作家、劇作及電影編劇家派崔克․徐四金1985年問世的小說《香水》在2006年拍成電影後，享譽國際。徐四金作品中的主人翁經常為樂於離群索居、獨處，享受孤寂的社會邊緣人。在一次偶然的機會洞悉生命的本質而開始追尋自我，挑戰迄今的生活危機。本文試著探討小說《香水》，分析、詮釋文本，主要架構在邊緣人的孤寂以及他所追尋的完美境界，來探討以下問題：那不起眼、不受重視的個體主人翁如何成為殺人魔，如何藉由香氣來贏得／操縱眾人對他的癡愛，也就是他的完美境界；作家徐四金如何一方面銜接傳統殺人魔主題，一方面將自身的閱讀經驗及所認知的哲理運用在小說裡，以嶄新的形式來取悅讀者？作家僅僅在敘述一個殺人魔的故事？或有其它的創作意涵？

The contemporary German writer and screen writer Patrick Süskind became famous after his novel Das Parfum (1985) was made into a film in 2006. Most of the protagonists in Süskind's works seem to be outsiders to society. They are obsessed with living lives of solitude with their unique and somewhat odd characteristics. These characters are by accident conscious of the essence of life. Various crises occur which are related to their isolation, presenting special challenges to the characters.This study intends to analyze and interpret Süskind's novel Das Parfum. It will focus on the solitude of the outsider and his search for a perfect ideal life, and asks how this unimportant character becomes a murderer, and how by the use of pleasant aromas, he enchants and manipulates people, thus reaching his goal-a perfect, and-in his eyes-ideal life. The study will also include consideration of how Süskind uses this traditional topic, together with his own reading experiences and philosophical views in the novel, to develop a new type of work for entertainment. Finally, this study asks whether the story of a murderer is the only focus in the novel and, if not, what the intention of Süskind may be.
