「凡人如何抵抗時間的侵蝕，在無常流變當中護衛脆弱的愛與美？」對於這個十四行詩心心念念的問題，《冬天的故事》，在所有莎劇當中，展現出最直接的關注、最全面的省思。這部飽蘸著「時間感」的劇本，將人間世的循環與大自然的循環連為一氣，鋪演出生命之流示現不息的毀壞、僵滯、轉化、再生與圓成。本文將《冬》劇解讀為一則「光陰的故事」並主張戲劇中心的探索乃是有關生命情境的哲學性觀照。《冬天的故事》雖然無涉任何尖銳的現賞議題，這部文本在過去的幾個世紀裡卻備受爭議。廿世紀以後，《冬》劇身價陡升，甚至擠身莎翁的巔峰劇作之林。本文指出：這齣戲在近代之所以深受青睞－一如它在過去之所以飽受攻訐－關鍵同樣在於文本異常混雜的風格。文本混雜的風格給表演帶來了豐富的可能，也形成了莫大的挑戰。這篇論文觀察的焦點在《冬天的故事》文本設計的獨特處。文中將逐項檢視這部文本當中「時空錯亂」、「虛實交織」、「多種鏡頭同時併用」、「對立觀點合而為一」等等重疊顯像的手法，並討論莎翁如何在疊影重重之間營造出《冬》劇最大的特色：一種「時間感流動」的混雜風格。
