本論文從單子及褶曲的角度，探討在跨國企業及資訊電腦網路帶來的全球化現象裡，人的處境及人文學科遭到的衝擊，並嘗試提出人文學科再造之道。人文學科建立在什麼是人的概念上，但在全球化情境下，有關人的概念起了急遽變化，人文學科也日趨邊緣化。本論文分別檢驗華勒斯坦、羅柏森、紀登斯、哈維、莎絲基雅．薩森及阿帕杜萊等人的全球化論點，再以萊布尼茲的單子論，以及班雅明與德勒茲據此所發展出來的理論架構，對上述學者的論點進行分析批判。單子及摺曲應用在全球化研究上，有甚多獨到的優點，包括在混亂中找尋秩序、打破以人作為理論框架之侷限性、找到同一範疇內的各種存在可能。
