本篇論文的主旨是探討兩本十七世紀戲劇作品《藍特寡婦》和《印地安酋長》中之美洲原住民女性的身分、十七世紀的場景文化及殖民論述。美洲原住民女性在英國對新大陸殖民時期經常被視為甘願被同化的樣板，原住民女性與白人結構的故事也經常呈現政治霸權和父權書寫的事實。本篇論文企圖從兩本戲劇文學詮釋帝國建構王權的策略和國族主義下的殖民論述，並討論兩本戲劇中，英國殖民強權對原住民控制與期待的雙重心態。
