本文透過處理1990年代亞洲地區的合作電影,探討「亞洲」這個理念的可能與不可能性,及其與環球資本主義的關係。以由日本與香港電影合作所製造的中國性為重點,集中討論香港電影人李志毅執導的日資電影《不夜城》及杜琪峰與韋家輝的港產片《全職殺手》,分析內裡的族裔特殊性如何可以扮演亞洲主義催化劑的角色。亞洲的異質性如何能夠在電影形象中再現?「日本的亞洲」電影和「香港的亞洲」電影能否產生真正的亞洲電影,代表了整體?吊詭地,亞洲的再現正是象徵亞洲的不可能。在再現亞洲的過程中,經常出現沒有決定性意義的符號。本文提出通過再現符號的流動互換,當出現了一些偶然的特別意義時,便會成為亞洲意義的替身甚至代言人。
