2007年於宜蘭大溪漁港的底拖網魚獲中所採集到的一尾蜥鰻屬Saurenchelys標本，其齒式特徵與近似種類－線尾蜥鰻Saurenchelys fierasfer不同。此標本的鋤骨齒中列牙齒數目較少（7 vs. 12－14），且各齒間排列較為分散。以及其翼骨齒板較窄且長（線尾蜥鰻的翼骨齒板則較短且寬）。作者由上述齒式特徵因而鑑定出本尾蜥鰻樣本為－臺灣新記錄種－食蟹蜥鰻Saurenchelys cancrivora Peters, 1864。

A specimen of eel genus Saurenchelys was captured at Ilan, Daxi, Taiwan in 2007, by the bottom trawl at depth 100-200 m. The specimen differed with Saurenchelys fierasfer Jordan and Snyder in the less number of median row teeth of vomer (7 in our specimen vs. 12-14 in S. fierasfer), and the mid row of vomer sit more separately on each tooth; the pterygoid teeth plate in our specimen is narrow and long, not as S. fierasfer is wide and short. Based on above morphological features, we recognized this specimen was Saurenchelys cancrivora Peters, 1864, a new record species of nettastomatid eel from Taiwanese waters.
