The time development of a slab-shaped two dimensional laser beam passing through a moving medium has been investigated. It was found that in the transient state, a non-symmetrical divergence of the beam axises with the center of divergence corresponding to thd minimum density in the beam region and the center moves with a velocity v(subscript 0)/2 in the direction of wind, where v(subscript 0) is the wind velocity: in the steady state, a stationary asymmetrical self-curving into the opposite direction of the wind occurs, where the deflection is found as a function of the wind velocity v. the absorption coefficient a of the medium and the beam power P. In particular, for the case when the beam power exceeds a critical value P(subscript c), the appearence of interference fringes is predicted. |
