The time development of a laser beam passing through a moving medium has been discussed. It was found that in the transient state, the medium acts like a divergent lense, and the divergent center move in the direction of the wind with a velocity v(subscript 0) from the origin where v(subscript 0) is the wind velocity. It is also found that the minimum density spot of the medium coincides exactly with the center of divergence of the laser beam as is expected. In the steady state the induced curving in the opposite direction of the wind is observed and at the same time the thermal blooming effect is also found in the transverse direction of the wind. A detailed calculation for the intensity profile (The equation is abbreviated) otherwise has been carried out for illustration. Finally the results have been compared with the previous results of the two dimensional case. |
