Excited K^π = 0^+ Bands in 168 Er*

A microscopic analysis using the projection before variation method is applied to study the K^π = 0^+ theoretical two-quasiparticle bands in 168Er. Among these calculated bands, the experimental observed bands are identified with remarkable agreement. It is suggested that the K^π = 0^+ excited bands in 168Er are pure two-quasiparticle bands and cannot be identified as collective O-vibration bands.
