We present an approach for random phase approximation calculations of nuclear response in the continuum for the hadronic inelastic scattering. It involves solving the inhomogeneous coupled-channels integral equations for particles excited by the external field. This method provides information on contributions from both direct particle emission and statistical damping processes. We apply it to giant resonances in the 28Si(p,p') scattering at Elab=61 MeV. We show that the calculations well reproduce the gross features of the observed spectra. |
