We have analyzed the effects of time delay on the intracellular calcium oscillation in a model based on the mechanism of Ca(superscript 2+)-induced Ca(superscript 2+) release. The effects of time delay on the steady-state probability distribution (SPD) and mean of the Ca(superscript 2+) concentration of cytosol <x> are investigated by numerical calculation. The results indicate that consideration of the time delay changes drastically the behavior of the intracellular Ca(superscript 2+) oscillation. First, there is a critical value of the time delay τ(subscript c) in the fluctuation of intracellular calcium with a change of time delayτ, i.e., when τ takes a value below τ(subscript c), it boosts up the fluctuation of intracellular Ca(superscript 2+). However, when τ takes a value above τ(subscript c), it restrains the fluctation. Second, when τ<τ(subscript c), <x> increases linearly as τ increases, when τ>τ(subscript c), <x> first remains constant, and then bursting appears, which occurs for the case of weak external noise as τ increases, but <x> bursting disappears as the density of the external noise increases. |
