In the present work, the effect of the ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) additive on the bulk growth of unidirectional <001> potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal grown from an aqueous solution by the Sankaranarayanan-Ramasamy (S-R) method has been studied. The <001> oriented KDP seed crystal was mounted at the bottom of a glass ampoule, and a crystal of 16 mm in diameter and 110 mm in length was grown by this method. The addition of 300 ppm EDTA in the bulk growth medium increased the quality as well as the growth rate. The grown crystal was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and FTIR spectroscopy. The S-R method grown EDTA added KDP crystal showed crystalline quality and perfection better than that of one grown by the slow solvent evaporation technique. |
