以台北市一棵楓香行道樹主幹無預警斷裂傾倒並釀災作為研究對象。現場觀察殘留樹幹有流膠情況;斷裂面的木材組織鬆軟、充滿空隙,白色或淡黃色菌絲面生長其中,菌絲面有豐富剛毛(setae)。敲擊殘留樹幹之聲音與正常樹幹有差異。導致樹木斷裂倒塌的木材腐朽菌經組織分離、純化、核醣體核酸(ribosomal DNA, rDNA)之ITS基因序列定序,並比對NCBI GenBank資料庫,菌種與資料庫中的Inonotus chrysomarginatus及I. pachyphloeus均達99%相似。以Arbotom檢測樹幹50 cm高的木材組織情況,其樹幹圓盤的應力波傳導速度為337-794 m/s;同時期種植並相鄰的楓香行道樹為1667-2319 m/s及1478-2426 m/s,兩者有明顯的差異。

英文摘要

A case study of a fatal accident caused by the unpredicted fracturing and toppling of Liquidambar formosana in Taipei was carried out. The remaining tree trunk after failure exhibited gummosis, and the wood tissue on the fractured surface was loose and full of cracks and voids. White or light-yellow mycelial mats with setae on the fractured surface, and within the cracks and wood pores were observed. The sound made by tapping the tree trunk was different from that of the normal tree trunks. The wood decay fungus which contributed to the tree fracture was isolated, purified, and undergone ITS sequencing. The sequences obtained had 99% similarity with the accessions of Inonotus chrysomarginatus and I. pachyphloeus in Genbank (NCBI). The wood qualities of the remaining tree trunk and 2 adjacent L. formosana (all planted during the same period) at 50 cm height were examined by Arbotom. The results showed significant differences in that the stress wave travel times of the remaining tree trunk was 337-794 m/s, while 2 adjacent L. formosana were 1667-2319 m/s and 1478-2426 m/s.
