Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), which frequently leads to chronic kidney disease, is a global health problem that increases cardiovascular events, hospitalization, and overall mortality. Although current therapies with renin-angiotensin system inhibitors and sodium-glucose cotransport 2 inhibitors are effective, these treatments cannot completely prevent the progression of DKD to end-stage renal disease. Therefore, developing alternative strategies for treating DKD is urgently needed. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been demonstrated to be effective for treating DKD. However, the mechanism of TCM that improves the conditions of DKD is unclear. This article reviews the molecular mechanism of TCM in the treatment of DKD. |
