本論文旨在從西方漢學家高羅佩(Van Gulik, Robert Hans)(1910-1967A.D)之琴學論著The Lore of the Chinese Lute; an essay in the ideology of the Ch'in（《琴道》）之論述來看其眼中的古琴音樂之美，並對其論述的觀點提出省思，以見在中西文化背景的差異下，古琴音樂不同於西方音樂的特質。今全文論述之重點如下： 一、前言 二、高羅佩《琴道》之論述動機 三、古琴與自然結合的美學意義 四、高羅佩論述琴樂之美的省思 五、結論 透過對高羅佩《琴道》一書論述古琴音樂之美的省思，筆者擬探討在中西文化的差異下，高羅佩對中國古琴音樂之美的體認有何不同？由此提出對於西方人認知下的古琴音樂之美的省思，以反顯出古琴音樂不同於西方音樂的美學特質。而今日唯有傳承與保留中國傳統古琴的特質，才能因應西方音樂的衝擊開展出古琴音樂的新契機。

The study aims to review The Lore of the Chinese Lute; an essay in the ideology of the Ch'in by Van Gulik, Robert Hans (1910-1967 A.D.). The main discussion focuses on the introspection of Vats Gulik's opinions on the beauty of Ku-Chin music. It also explores what the different characteristics between Ku-Ch'in music and Western music are. The topics discussed in the study include: 1. Introduction 2. The motive of Van Gulik's discussion 3. The aesthetical meaning of the combination of Ku-Ch'in and nature 4. The introspection of Van Gulik's discussion on the beauty of Ku-Ch'in music 5. Conclusion The findings of the study may reveal what the distinguishing characteristics on the Ku-Ch'in music are. In addition, through examining the introspection of Van Gulik's discussion on the beauty of Ku-Ch'in music, it is hoped to keep and spread these conventional characteristics on the Ku-Ch'in music in order to respond to the demands of the present day.
