八卦由單卦演變到重卦，是一個漫長的歷史過程。到了四千年前的夏禹時代，從出土的文物考古資料中證明：八卦由單卦到重卦，經歷了孕育雛型期之後，至此已經進入了它的發展演變期了。

It is a long history for the Eight Diagrams to evolve into the Double Diagrams from the Single Diagram. The excavated archaeological finds have proved that about 4000 years ago in the era of the reputed founder of the Hsia Dynasty the Eight Diagrams experienced evolution from the Double diagrams to the Single diagram, and that the Eight Diagrams had entered the period of development from its embryonic form.
