This paper proceeds along four topics. First, we would summarize about the development of Yen Shan-non’s thought and doctrine. While most history of thought ignored his doctrine, we can get closer to the context of his thought if we could make a recommendation. Second, we explore his claims, “nature generates happiness,” and “the suppression of desire is not to achieve ren.” Third, we bring out and investigate Yen’s doubts about the question of mind-nature. Finally, we analyze the predicament of his theory about mind-nature. With all this, we wish to fill in the missing part as well as show what’s unique and different about his thought, in order to subject it to fair judgment and trigger doubts about Yen Shan-non’s mind-nature.
