郎尼根理論體系涵括了論及人心靈對超越領域的開放及嚮往，其中的議題尚牽涉著「超越切慕」、「神秘洞察」及「宗教歸化」等項目。此等論題在郎氏系統中看來仍有可待發揮的餘地，尤其在「神祕洞察」方面、郎氏體系可藉著聆聽聖十字若望談「默觀」的心得而獲得進一步的突破與啟發。

In his reflection on man's desire to know, Lonergan emphasizes the fact that there is a transcendent exigence heading for a religious conversion. As to the question whether man's transcendent exigence may open up for different stages of mystical insight, Lonergan does not seem to concentrate much attention on this aspect. But, this lacuna may possibly be filled up if we visualize an encounter of Lonergan's system with St. John of the Cross' theory on contemplation.
