Responding to an evolutionary world view that is increasingly atheistic, Catholic theologians have attempted to point out that accepting the validity of evolutionary theory does not warrant rejection of God, on the other hand, it offers an opportunity to understand God in a better light. After explaining that belief in God is compatible with evolution, this paper reviews the perspectives of Catholic scholars on the understanding of God as creator and sustainer of the universe and the purpose of universe in an evolutionary world view.
