The nature of God's creation and conservation of the physical universe is examined in the context of the theology and philosophy of Bernard Lonergan. The creation of something from nothing is, of course, a mystery. Yet some limited understanding can be obtained by considering (a) the nature of the real as intelligible, (b) God's complete understanding of all that is (the idea of being), (c) the nature of causality as intelligible dependence and (d) the nature of human knowing and creativity. The relation of God to time is also central to any understanding of creation. It is argued that God as the creator of time and process must him/herself be timeless. Using these concepts as a basis, further comments will be made on the abstract intelligibility of space and time and on the concrete intelligibility of world process governed by emergent probability. Such an evolving universe is governed by both classical and statistical laws, leaving room for true novelty and, in the case of human persons, true freedom. Finally, some comments will be made on the conference theme of a ”Dialogue between Charles Darwin and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin” as well as on current speculations such as ”special creation” and ”intelligent design.”
