This article proceeds along five sections: the first section summarizes the basic positions and claims of scholasticism on epistemology; the second section introduces the writings by the senior scholars of Taiwan scholasticism, including Chai Hsi, Lo Kuang, Chao Ya-po, Sun Chen-ching, Chang Chen-tung, Wang Chen-rei, Kuan Yung-chung and Yuan Ting-tung. The third section states the attitudes of scholasticism toward metaphysics as the epistemology of traditional scholasticism confirms the existence of objective entities and contemporary transcendental Thomism, in combination with the transcendental methodology of Kantian philosophy, approves the foundation of metaphysics. The fourth section addresses the internal inheritance and transformation of scholastic epistemology as well as the inheritance and transformation of its development in Taiwan. On the one hand, we explain how western scholastic epistemology is inherited and transformed due to its combination with the transcendental methodology of Kantian philosophy; on the other hand, we discuss how the scholars of scholastic epistemology in Taiwan are locally inherited and transformed. The fifth section is our conclusion.
