從歷史環境的具體性抽身而考察道教文化的共時性結構，我們可以發現一切時代道教信仰者均面臨著信念倫理的困惑與考驗。就長生不死信仰而言，道教一般主張發揮信仰者的懷疑和實驗精神，實際上持有一種樸素的不徹底的信念倫理證據主義原則，並最早由近現代道教領袖陳攖寧加以明確；而就大道信仰而言，道教與亞伯拉罕系一神論宗教類似，持有一種信仰主義立場，並預設了一種意志主義的信念倫理原則。道教中理性與信仰之間的深刻矛盾，對道教與古代數學、自然科學之間的互動關係也有著直接的影響。

Investigating the synchronic structure of Daoist Culture without considering any concreteness on the historical situation, we find that all Daoist believers will face the confusion and test of ethics of belief. As far as immortal belief is concerned, Daoism usually advocates skeptical and experimental spirits, and actually take an simple incomplete evidentialist doctrine of Ethics of Belief, which was first put forward clearly by morden Daoist leader Chen Ying-ning. As far as Dao belief is concerned, Daoism takes an opposition of fideism and presupposes a right of the will to belief as monotheistic religion. And the dialectic contradiction between belief and reason in Daoism has an direct influence on the interaction between Daoism and ancient mathematics and natural science.
