"New Development of Confucian Ideas" is the important literature of He Lin in 1940s. This article examines the complex relationships between the literature and the trend of the times and the practical politics, especially reveals its ideological characteristics of combining with "three principles of the people" of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. To developing Confucianism in modern times, He Lin emphasized the unity of the two principles, which are the compatible with the requirements of the reason and the compatible with the requirements of the times. Through this dual perspective, this article reflects on He Lin's thought transition after 1949, to explain his adherence to the first in the tension of two principles. In his later life, Lin He recalls his 1940s thoughts with emotion, no thought to deny the past.
