〈儒家思想的新開展〉是賀麟1940年代撰寫的重要思想文獻。本文考察了這篇文獻與時代思潮和現實政治的複雜關聯。特別揭示這篇文獻尋求與孫中山「三民主義」相結合以實現儒家思想的現代發展的思想特徵。賀麟堅持以「合理性」發展儒家思想，又強調「合理性」應與「合時代」相統一。本文並以「合理性」與「合時代」的雙重視角，觀察賀麟1949年以後的思想轉變，說明賀麟在「合理性」與「合時代」的緊張中對「合理性」原則的堅持。晚年賀麟感懷於曾經寫作過的新儒家思想，無否定這篇撰著之意。

＂New Development of Confucian Ideas＂ is the important literature of He Lin in 1940s. This article examines the complex relationships between the literature and the trend of the times and the practical politics, especially reveals its ideological characteristics of combining with ＂three principles of the people＂ of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. To developing Confucianism in modern times, He Lin emphasized the unity of the two principles, which are the compatible with the requirements of the reason and the compatible with the requirements of the times. Through this dual perspective, this article reflects on He Lin's thought transition after 1949, to explain his adherence to the first in the tension of two principles. In his later life, Lin He recalls his 1940s thoughts with emotion, no thought to deny the past.
