The public nature of knowledge makes knowledge constitute the necessary condition for every social member to pursue Rawlsian ＂rational life plan＂. The injustice of knowledge distribution has a profound impact on social justice, but the political theories of distributive justice do not include knowledge. Like most social goods, knowledge can also be produced, disseminated and acquired. Knowledge can be considered as Rawls's ＂primary good＂ and brought into the discussion of justice theory. The distributive justice of knowledge needs to be realized in an institutional framework of ＂the system of public knowledge＂.

知識的公共性使得知識構成了每個社會成員追求羅爾斯式的「合理生活計畫」必需的條件。知識分佈的不公正對於社會正義產生了深刻影響，然而以《正義論》為代表的分配正義理論並未將知識納入其中。像大多數社會益品一樣，知識也可以被生產、傳播和獲取，知識可以被視為羅爾斯的「基本善」而納入正義理論的討論物件。知識的分配正義需要在一個“公共知識系統”的制度框架中實現。
