安樂哲是美國當代具有世界影響的著名哲學家，在長達半個世紀的中國哲學研究中，對道家哲學用力頗深。在其《主術：中國古代政治思想研究》、《漢哲學思維的文化探源》和《道不遠人》三部專著中，他基於中西比較哲學視角，從道家哲學自身的詮釋域境出發，對「道」的「非超越性」、道家焦點—場域模式的自我、道家關聯宇宙論的詮釋以及《道德經》的重新翻譯等，為道家研究提供了新的理論視野和研究方法。他的道家詮釋，不僅具有創新性和前瞻性，凸顯了道家哲學的當代價值與意義，而且對於當代道家哲學海外話語權的確立以及道家哲學的對外傳播也作出了積極的貢獻。

Roger T. Ames is an American contemporary famous philosopher who has been paying much attention to the research of Taoist philosophy, during his Chinese philosophy research for nearly half a century. From the perspective of Chinese and Western comparative philosophy, he has been trying to apply the interpretive context of Taoist philosophy to analyse the non-transcendent dao, Taoist focus-field model of self, Taoist correlative cosmology as well as the translation of Dao De Jing in his three books-The Art of Rulership: A Study of Ancient Chinese Political Thought, Thinking from the Han: Self, Truth, and Transcendence in Chinese and Western Culture, Daodejing: Making This Life Significant, which provides Taoist philosophy a new method of research. His Taoist interpretation not only has a great innovation that shows the contemporary value of Taoist philosophy, but also makes a positive contribution to the establishment of discourse power and transmission of Taoist philosophy overseas.
