Besides the preface of the Sishu Jizhu, Zhu Xi also infused his ideas about "Confucian orthodoxy" into the details of the annotations by additional points, which overflowed the meanings of the scriptures. Mencius plays an important role in Zhu Xi' s theory of Confucian orthodoxy, Zhu Xi combined the construction of Confucian orthodoxy with the annotation of Mencius and conveyed his ideas about Confucian orthodoxy through annotations, which is not only a philosophical (ideological) issue, but also an annotational issue. This article goes deep into Zhu Xi's annotation in the Mengzi Jizhu, and analyzes Zhu Xi's frame and methods of constructing the Confucian orthodoxy from three dimensions: "respecting and honoring Mencius directly in the annotation", "constructing the integration of Confucius and Mencius intentionally in the annotation" and "commending the Cheng Brothers as the only inheritor of Mencius orthodoxy in the annotation", in order to restore and observe his Confucian concerns reflected from the overflowed meanings of the scriptures when annotating Mencius.
