The compatibility between human will and divine predestination is the focus of early Christian predestination theory. Different from Augustine's interpretation of predestination, Eriugena starts from the meaning of "predestination = being", discusses that predestination is related to the nature of God, and tries to explain theological predestination with ontology. In addition, Eriugena incorporated the viewpoint of predestination into his "natural" philosophical system, so as to clarify the metaphysical significance of predestination. In on the distinction of nature, Eriugena also creatively interprets the relationship between "predestination" and "limitation (or definition)", gives a philosophical explanation of the divine source of human nature, and explores the main way of salvation through the understanding of "humanity".
