Television news is a valuable means by which the public gains access to information on global warming. Based on a case study of Rescue Earth, this study investigated the modes by which television (TV) news reports on global warming. Oral narratives dominate TV news coverage, particularly in defining global warming as a crisis, introducing prevention strategies, and explaining scientific information. However, musical and oral narratives are usually used for amplifying the meaning conveyed by images in order to construct an image of a beautiful and pristine environment worthy of being protected. In addition, accounts of people-caused global warming are relayed through oral narratives, and black-and-white visuals are used to imply negative effects. Although images contradict the verbal message locally, they might acquire coherence from audio narration globally.
