Music reflects the tempo, the rhythm, and the aesthetics of a period. That the historical environment cannot be resurrected is an obstacle in the way of historical research on architecture. Period instruments and historical performance, however, can provide help with this problem. From the 1930s of the last century, a revival of Baroque musician Vivaldi was started and from 1970 to 2000, a tremendous output of recordings was made, including the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman music. In the past, temples were erected for performance of rituals, at which music was played, an atmosphere was created and emotions were stirred. Thus, indeed, music is a part of architecture. Through historical music studies, we might derive new insights in architectural history research. That the ancient Greeks had rules and followed them strictly has been deemed a fact by many. This paper, through period music and archeological discoveries, aims to reshape our understanding of harmony and order in classical Greek architecture and the pursuit of equilibrium between order and non-order, system and non-system.
