Waterscape the most restorative landscape type. However, previous studies commonly used psychological scale to analyze (Laumann, et al., 2001; Kweon, et al., 2008; Purcell, et al., 2001; Nordh, et al., 2009). In this study, we attempted to use waterscape as experimental stimuli, and divided it into two conditions, dynamic and static, according to the most representative waterscape feature "dynamic" characteristic. We analyzed the difference between watching two conditions of waterscape in regional brain areas activated. The results showed that even if we only used photographs as experimental stimuli, the photos of waterscape implied the "dynamic", which made a difference in the brain response, especially on the movement and attention brain region. Besides, this study found out that when people watched the landscape, it could involve a variety of cognitive functions, such as emotional, perceptual experience, memory, and so on. Furthermore, the pictures in this experiment stimuli were all different in structure and composition, which might be one of the factors that affected brain reactions. This study is a preliminary attempt of interdisciplinary research by using fMRI technology to visualize brain activity when people react to different water characteristics. It can provide a more practical understanding of physiological responses feeling of space, and refer to design work. |
