Comparison of the cDNA-coding and protein sequences of lactate dehydrogenase isozymes A (muscle), B (herat) and C (testis) from human, mouse and rat shows different extents of variation. At the level of cDNA-coding sequences, LDH-A and LDH-B exhibit similar variation, while LDH-C is 1.5 times more variable than either LDH-A or LDH-B. At the level of amino-acid sequences, LDH-A and LDH-C are 3-5 and 11-19 times more variable than LDH-B, respectively. Further, the cDNA-coding sequences of LDH-A and LDH-C seem to be more related to each other than either to LDH-B. However, the protein sequences of LDH-A and LDH-B are more closely related to each other than either to LDH-C as reported previously.
