The main purpose of this paper is to examine the principles of instructional assessment and the innovational practices in assessment. Firstly, the paper explains the importance of having assessment principles. Secondly, it discusses some of the principles of instructional assessment, which include comprehension, continuance, authenticity, validity, and multiplicity. Finally, it suggests some methods of innovation based on current developments in the field of education in Taiwan. Six recommendations are made with regard to innovation in educational assessment.
