Pedestrian space is vital in developed urban environments. Therefore, pedestrian behavior should be investigated and analyzed before road planning/design and before implementing traffic policies. This study analyzed pedestrian route choice behavior based on spatial relationships. Traditional independent variables such as pedestrian environment (including physical indicators and psychological indicators) and pedestrian characteristics were also included in the physical indicators model, psychological indicators and pedestrian characteristics model and the full model. This study showed that pedestrians tend to walk forward rather than turn corners. Meanwhile, the routes with smaller angles which are oriented to the destination are preferred. Pedestrians are also attracted to main streets. Additionally, psychological indicators have a stronger impact on pedestrian route choice than physical indicators.
