Most of agricultural waste products, such as corncobs, can be handled efficiently by incineration method with heat recovery. The corns were usually wet at harvest in Taiwan, with more than 30% for the ear corn and 40% for the corncobs. The wet corncobs can not be burned easily and efficiently in incinerators and therefore become a possible source of pollution for the environment. Objective of this study is to analyze the combustion process on the output model of sensible heat from the burning of high moisture corncobs in a biomass furnace located at Taiwan Seed Service. The experiment shows that the feed rate for corncobs with moisture of 12% should not be higher than 1.5kg per minute, or the concentration of carbon monoxide issued may exceed the discharge limit under the air pollution standard. To obtain a complete combustion process, the furnace temperature must usually be maintained higher than 500℃,while burning with high moisture corncobs. The thermal efficiency tends to decrease proportionally with the increase of moisture content of corncobs, with a dropping rate of 0.57% for every percent increase of corncob moisture. The overall efficiency may reach 55% at 12% of cob moisture. Using the modified model to predict the furnace temperatures with theoretical combustion temperature was also examined in this study. The average temperature can be obtained by this way with an accuracy of 94.26%, whilethe temperature at T4 position (117 cm high on the side wall) can be done with93.56%.
