Hang-Zhou (杭州) is the place where Jiang Kui (姜夔) lived for the longest period, hence it is necessary to look at his Hang-Zhou Ci poetry carefully. There remain 84 Ci poems written by Jiang Kui, and amongst them, 27 poems concern the land and people of Hang-Zhou. This chapter attempts to analyze the content and symbolic meanings in Jiang Kui's Hang-Zhou Ci poetry from the 4 perspectives: space for play and music, homeland for living, secret place to recollect love, and landscape of poetic nature. In the Ci poems we can behold grandeur of the old Hang-Zhou city and the prehension of his soul with the city. And we shall illustrate his artistic characteristics in his Hang-Zhou Ci poems in the order of: the brush-painting like ethereal taste, the condense writing style, and the luminous and graceful aesthetic pattern.
