淚道探刺術是處理因淚道排泄系統阻塞而引起病人溢淚現象的一種基本且常見的手術。由於執行此術而造成的合併症較為少見，主要是對淚道排泄系統直接造成的創傷或是引起感染和發炎。本文報告淚道探刺術之另一罕見的合併症：患者女性56歲，因左眼鼻淚管阻塞而接受淚道探刺檢查，使用探子尖端有一狹頸的威廉氏型淚道探子，在執行淚道探刺術當中針尖斷裂在下淚小管中，後來病患接受淚囊鼻腔吻合術，並將斷裂遺留在淚小管中的針尖取出。為了避免因淚道探刺術而引起此種合併症，我們在執行此術時應注意探子的設計型態、管徑大小、探子是否有所缺損及正確的使用。

Lacrimal drainage system probing is the basic and common surgical treatment for management of lacrimal drainage system obstruction. Complications resulting from probing are rare, and the major complications are direct trauma to the lacrimal drainage system or infection & inflammation of lacrimal drainage system. An unusual complication of lacrimal drainage system probing was reported: A 56 y/o female p't, a case of left nasolacrinal duct obstruction, received lacrimal drainage system probing with Williams- style lacrimal probe but a 4-mm segment of the probe tip broke off inside the lower canaliculus during probing. Dacryocystorhiostomy was performed and the retained lacrimal tip was extracted. Choosing an appropriate probe design & size and inspecting the probe before use will help preventing this unusual complication.
