The relationship between xin (mind), xing (nature), li (principle) and qi has been the major concern for most interpreters of Liu Ji-shan's philosophy. Among these scholars, Mou Zhong-shan’s interpretative approach of "manifestation of the xing through the xin" (or called "revealing human nature with heart" by some scholars) is the most influential. Following the researches by Yang cho-hon and Lo suet-kwan in recent years, this paper attempts to revisit the texts of Liu jishan and reconsider the accuracy of Mou's approach. The relationship between xin (mind), xing (nature), li (principle) and qi will be interpreted from an a prior synthetic perspective, following the insight of Lo, which should more adequately and accurately illustrate the moral philosophy underlying the philosophical tradition of Confucius and Mencius, as rightly and famously proposed by Mou Zhongshan. |
