”Chi shui jin tan” is an important rite to make the location around the rite a tranquil and sacred area when the ”Dao fa er men” in northern Taiwan is undertaking the religious rite. The writer, with the related historical information and documents, makes sure that ”Chi shui jin tan” has a double meaning-”to expel evil” and ”to purify.” Then, according to the process of the rite, the contents in the rite book, and various spells and actions of a Taoist priest who is undertaking the rite, the writer does a deep research on the keyi thoughts of ”Chi shui jin tan” and explores the symbol of the rite, hoping to make use of the discussion in this text to manifest the importance and abundance of a Taoist rite on culture and thought.
