《我們未曾現代過》是科技研究（STS）中的重要著作，也是行動者網絡理論（Actor-Network Theory）的主要理論建構之一。Bruno Latour在本書以混種物的中介，據此提出可變式本體論、物的議會、非現代性等主張，以解決現代主義的主客二分。本書引起許多爭議。除了與其立場、風格有關的批評外，許多評論針對本書的政治承諾，尤其是非人行動者的政治性問題。不同於既有評論，本評論對非人政治性的爭議，並不擬提供一個超越時空的剖析。本文指出由STS提出的社會政治脈絡到ANT的本體論政治意涵，作為理解本書的脈絡，並指出ANT對於貫徹STS的一般對稱性提問、可變式本體論、與帶回異質行動者的洞見。最後本文並據此本體論政治觀點，提出在本地時空思考與使用其相關概念的「STS inside」策略。

”We Have Never been Modern” is a major theoretical achievement both in science and technology studies (STS) and Actor-Network theory (ANT). By examining the mediation work of the hybrids, Bruno Latour proposes variable ontologies, parliament of things, and nonmodernity in order to tackle the modernist dualism of subject and object.This proposition is criticized for its argument style, theoretical position, and most importantly its nonhuman political implication. This paper is not another overall evaluation of its nonhuman politics. It introduces STS' contribution in exploring the social politics of technoscientific practices and specifies ANT's insights into general symmetrical investigation, variable ontologies, and heterogeneous actor of ontological politics. Based on the perspective of such an ontological politics, this paper also discusses the strategy of 'STS inside' to think with and use such an ontological perspective in our local context.
