This study provides empirical evidence on the roles of female executives in the relationship between financial derivatives usage and bank risks. The results show that female executives decrease the usage of financial derivatives and cause the low ratio of the net fair value of financial derivatives to total assets. Their "risk allocation" strategies reduce activity risks but raise the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio. However, when a female executive decides to use financial derivatives, the bank's NPL ratio will be reduced effectively. Hence, the authorities and bank stockholders should encourage banks to appoint women as executives from monitoring and hedging perspectives.
