The Changzhou celebrity Wen Zheng-Ming (1470-1559) was a distinguished and well-known book collector in the Ming dynasty. He owned a library named Yulantang with an abundant collection of rare editions of books covering a wide range of classical Chinese works. In addition, his book collection also featured an assortment of transcripts of influential books. Wen Zheng-Ming was moreover the representative figure of the literati in the region Wuzhong in the mid-Ming dynasty where he frequently exchanged his collected books with the local literati and regularly participated in local community activities. This article aims to explore Wen Zheng-Ming's book collection activities, literary exchanges, and community life, through which readers may observe the epitome of the culture of book collection in Changzhou.
