Malignant Mesothelioma after Occupational Exposure to Asbestos in a Cathode Ray Tube Factory Worker

惡性肺間皮瘤為罕見腫瘤，好發於長期與石綿接觸的患者身上。本文將探討一位66歲男性因為持續性呼吸不順暢長達兩個月而就診。胸部X光片及胸腔電腦斷層掃描顯示右肺肋膜積水，且有胸膜增厚現象。經切片確診為惡性肺間皮瘤。個案為從事於真空映像管廠長達30年之作業員。工作期間，為了阻隔映像管成生的炙熱，長時間穿戴由石綿編織的隔熱衣。個案表示其他工作同仁也有多位罹患惡性肺間皮瘤。此案例提醒我們暴露於石綿的健康危害，並可藉由石綿接觸病史加速診斷此罕見職業性癌。

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare tumor with a high prevalence in people who are exposed to asbestos. We present a case of a 66-year-old male complaining of progressive shortness of breath for two months. A chest X-ray and chest computed tomography (CT) scan showed a right side massive pleural effusion and pleura thickening. A pleural biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. Review of the patient's history showed that he worked in a cathode ray tube factory for 30 years and wore asbestos-lined clothing for protection against the heat generated by the cathode ray tubes. Other co-workers have also been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma. This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of asbestos exposure to one's health and how a history of exposure can facilitate in the diagnosis of this rare tumor.
