Merging the merits of classical Chinese and vernacular, uniting the interests of grace and popularization, Pu Song Ling indited ”Liaozhai Zhiyi” (”Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio”). ”The 14th Daughter of Hsin Family” (”Xin shi si niang”) is one of the greatest stories in the book. By utilizing the artistic skills such as twisting plot, varying view of narration, grabbing the shape and verve, vividly depicting the tones and characteristics of the characters, distributing the details properly, and planting the implicative language skillfully, Pu Song Ling made ”The 14th Daughter of Hsin Family” to be the representative work of ”Liaozhai Zhiyi”. The achievement of this story looks sideways at the all works in the field of short story of all time. |
