The essay explores the affective, non-linguistic dimension of music phenomena, an issue largely ignored by contemporary cultural studies, which are typically enmeshed in linguistic model of cultural experience. Based on the intrication of representation and affect in our musical experiences, this work proceeds to show that Lacanian conceptual framework offers insightful accounts in approaching the limit of signification, making it possible to think structurally on the affective power of music. In doing this, instead of focusing on the discourse of music which is practicized within the registers of the imaginary and the symbolic, I employ Lacan's notions such as the voice, fantasy, jouissance, and so on, to elaborate how music affects us beyond signification, in the precise sense of the real.
