意象是影響運動員表現的心理技巧之一，有關意象的研究趨勢，以往較偏重於意象訓練與身體訓練效果之比較研究，對於意象時的神經生理機轉則較少探討，這種趨勢讓人無法對意象訓練效果的生理成因，有真正的瞭解與掌握。依認知神經科學的觀點與實證研究發現，意象活動和實際動作時的神經生理活動有許多相似性存在，透過腦波（EEG）、功能性磁振造影（fMRI）等生理測量儀器的測量，也支持這類說法，這些研究發現提供了意象活動的神經生理證據。本文探討檢視意象相關理論和眾多生理實證研究文獻，描繪出意象活動所誘發的腦部神經生理活動情形，旨在讓人對意象功能的神經生理機轉有進一步的瞭解。
