骨密度是平均餘命(survival)的預測指標,也是健康狀況(health)或功能老化(aging)的指標。運動對骨密度的貢獻,支撐體重的運動(weight-bearing exercise)是一關鍵因素,但是阻力訓練對骨密度似乎更有潛在的效益。阻力訓練結合心肺耐力訓練(腳踏車與走路)是骨質疏鬆症患者最理想的運動處方,不但可以提昇整體適能(over fitness)和骨密度,也可以減少跌倒的危險性。骨質疏鬆症息者不宜從事碰撞性運動(impact exercise),例如跳躍運動、跑步或慢跑;此外,骨質疏鬆症患者也不宜從事彎腰或過度轉腰的運動,因為彎腰或轉腰會對脊稚骨產生過大的壓迫力量,容易造成骨折。
