兒童和青少年有氧能力發展與成人的差異在於他們正處於發育期間,而此階段的身高與體重等體型變化,以及心臟、肺臟和肌肉組織的發展,使他們在攝氧能力表現上隨之增進。其次,青春期男女性激素的發展也影響著身體組成;男性肌肉質量和淨體重較女性大,是造成男女性攝氧能力表現隨年齡增加而差距愈來愈大的因素。顯示兒童和青少年運動訓練的效果,很難排除來自成長因素的影響,因此要釐清運動訓練對兒童和青少年有氧能力的效果,需要進一步確認兒童與青少年成長速率和有氧能力提升的關係。
